Hollywood actor Richard Gere's devotion towards Buddhism and his contribution to the cause of free Tibet have not gone unnoticed. In appreciation of his role, exiled Tibetans living in India, have decided to make a film named after him.
Titled "Richard Gere Is My Hero", the film is directed by Tashi Wangchuk and Tsultrim Dorjee, both of whom have directed two Tibetans films earlier.
The story of the film revolves around a character "Neema" who is a big fan of Gere and wants to become a big actor like him. The film also gives a message for the cause of free Tibet.
"The film revolves around a character called Neema. He is a big fan of Richard Gere. Whatever he does or wherever he goes it is something to do with Richard Gere, because he always wanted to become a big actor like Richard Gere. Therefore, the title of the film is Richard Gere Is My Hero," said Tashi Wangchuk.
A blend of modern and traditional Tibet, the film talks about the plight of modern Tibetan youth in exile and of the need to safeguard traditional Buddhism values.
"The story is very much related to the modern life of Tibetan youth in exile. We are also trying to convey the principles of Buddhism. So, you can say that the film is t he blend of the modern and traditional Tibetan concept," added Tashi Wangchuk.
The entire film will be shot in Dharamshala, the headquarters of the Tibetan Government in exile.
Dolma Goyasi, the chairperson of Tibetan Parliament in Exile, met the film crew during a shoot and encouraged the youngsters to continue their efforts for the cause of free Tibet.
Some foreigners also volunteered to be a part of the film, and took an active part in the shooting of the film. (ANI)
